演講題目🔻:Medical education curriculum between the huge increase of medical knowledge and enhanced community needs

Traditional medical curriculum is continuously enlarging through the years because of increased quantity of medical knowledge. The students must learn more and more theoretical knowledge especially in basic sciences. Slowly, traditional curriculum was transformed into theoretical-scientific approach and study about basic principles or disease involved the molecular level, too. Theoretical knowledge dominated over practical work which was mainly took place in the hospitals.
Finally, few years ago the students were questionnaired to assess the relation between time spend on the lectures, the handbook and the time they need to learn to pass exam. The questionnaire showed us the discrepancy between all these three main elements.
Practical work trained in the hospital was limited on the presentation of the cases and the student was not allowed to practice.
Few years ago we started with new medical education curriculum. New medical curriculum is more community-oriented and community-based. The Departments of the basic sciences made an agreement to coordinate the programme of the subjects between each other in order to reduce subject content. Student competencies and skills, practical skills and communication skills are in the focus. The main goal is well trained medical doctor familiar with community needs and better prepared for very acquiring professional life.
In conclusion, nowadays the medical education curriculum because of huge possibilities, knowledge and needs must be oriented in one way toward the main goal.
